Sri Lanka Podujana Party(SLPP) Parliamentarian Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon has submitted a Private Members Bill in Parliament proposing that the marriageable age be raised to 18 years.
This, he said was being proposed to ensure that it would be illegal for a marriage to take place under 18 years.
He said if the marriageable age is made 18 years it would be equal to all children.
President Gotabaya during his policy statement made in Parliament declared that his intention was to have one law in the country.
