Quality controller officers have been appointed to inspect the quality of fish which is being sold by private sellers to the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation (CEYFISH), Minister Dilip Wedaarachchi said.
According to the Minister of Fisheries, certain private sellers sell their catch at a higher price to CEYFISH thereby causing market prices of fish to increase.
Instances of low-quality fish being sold to the fisheries corporation had also been reported in the recent past, Fisheries Minister Wedaarachchi pointed out.
Accordingly, around 400 quality control officers have been deployed across the country to determine the quality of fish and thereafter direct the fisheries authority to make the purchase.
