Railway gates with alarms will be installed for 200 unprotected railway level crossings to curb the frequent accidents occur on the crossings, an official of the Railway Department said.
Railway Operating Superintendent Wijaya Samarasinghe said around 900 unprotected railway level crossings had been identified island wide, out of which 200 locations were selected as the first step for installing the gates.
He added that tenders would be called for the project within this month.
