Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake today acknowledged before before the Presidential Commission to inquire into the Treasury Bonds issue that he was not aware that the rent for apartment he lived for nine months was paid by a front company of Perpetual Treasuries Limited (PTL).
"I was not aware of the lease agreement made by my family. Had I known it was funded by Arjun Aloysius, I would not have lived in it," he told the Presidential commission today when one of the Commissioner Prasanna Jayawardene asked whether he knew parties who involved in the lease agreement.
Appearing before commission today, Minister Karunanayake denied that the apartment was constructed by amalgamating two separate flats and size of the condominium despite strong evidences submitted before the courts.
Minister Karunanayake also told the Commission that former Central bank Governor Arjun Aloysius and his on in law Mahendran are his family friends, known to him for long time. He said he did not have any business relationship with any of them.
