The cabinet of ministers has agreed to amend the Registration of Electors Act upon a proposal put forward by President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (Jul 19).
Accordingly, voting rights would be granted for those who meet the eligibility criteria between the period of completing the electors list for a year and preparing a new one for the following year.
The proposed amendments to the Act would be gazetted and the put forward to Parliament for approval.
