A report of the Parliament's Committee on High Posts was presented to Parliament today (20) after a lapse of 40 years.
The High Posts Committee of the Eighth Parliament had met on 54 occasions and interviewed 290 individuals during that time, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya informed when the report was tabled in Parliament today.
The Speaker, who is also Chairman of the Committee, noted that the High Posts Committee of the Eighth Parliament had interviewed every single candidate who had been nominated for the respective posts.
Secretaries of Ministries as well as all Chairpersons appointed to Government Corporations, Statutory Boards or other institutions have been called before this Committee after being appointed to examine their qualifications.
The Committee has also called on all persons nominated to be Head of the Sri Lankan Foreign Missions to appear before the Committee before embarking on their journey abroad.
The Committee has been able to inspect and report on the suitability and eligibility of the persons nominated as Heads of Missions within a very short period of time, such as an approximate number of 16 days.
