The Government will set aside an additional Rs 100 million for purchasing required vehicles and equipment in order to remove waste which has accumulated in districts affected by the recent floods and landslides.
While the waste should be removed with immediate effect, local government agencies have inadequate vehicles and equipment for this purpose, the Government admitted.
Accordingly, a joint proposal was made by Disaster Management Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Provincial Councils and Local Government Minister Faizer Mustapha at Tuesday's Cabinet meeting to provide additional funds of Rs 100 million for purchasing of required vehicles and equipment to the Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government.
The proposal was approved by Cabinet.
