The diamond claimed to be worth Rs 5 billion which was recovered recently will be valuated at the Department of Geology at the Peradeniya University, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.
The diamond was initially sent to the Gem and Jewellery authority yesterday (Mar 11) following which a court order was issued to produce the diamond at the University of Peradeniya for evaluation.
It is suspected that 'Makandure Madush' had manipulated the theft of the diamond and some gems which had taken place at a residence in Arawwala, Pannipitiya.
