United National Party (UNP) Deputy leader Minister Sajith Premadasa has written to party leader Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe urging that the Party's presidential candidate be nominated this week.
A source at the Minister's office said that Mr. Premadasa had sought that a candidate is named without delay since it would affect the party’s election campaign and would affect democratic principles.
The UNP Deputy Leader had requested in the letter that either he or another candidate be nominated upon agreement of the UNP’s Central Committee and its Parliamentary Group.
Mr. Premadasa, in his letter, had stated that he would, however, contest at the upcoming Presidential elections.
