Sandhya Ekneligoda requests PM for security following Gnanasara Thera's release

News

Sandhya Ekneligoda, the wife of missing journalist, Prageeth Ekeneligoda has written to the Prime Minister seeking protection for herself and her family.

The letter dated today (May 24) has been sent to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe following the President's decision to release Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera on a Presidential pardon last evening.

"I consider the release of the Thero as an opportunity to exert pressure on my children and myself," Ms. Ekneligoda's letter read.

She emphasised that the President's decision to release the Thera who was remanded for contempt of court, has endangered the lives of her children and herself.

Ms. Ekneligoda explained that the monks supporting Gnanasara Thera had ridiculed and made scathing remarks against her while the latter was in prison.

"The manner in which he (Gnanasara Thera) conducted himself when he appeared before court to grant compensation to me on April 29, 2019 was also offensive" the missing journalist's wife stressed.
