Scuffle in Parliament during heated exchanges over Bond issue

A scuffle took place between Government MPs and those from the Joint Opposition during heated exchanges this morning in Parliament, which convened for an emergency session to debate the report compiled by the Commission of Inquiry into the Bond Issue. 

The scuffle broke out when Joint Opposition MPs carrying placards, came onto the well of Parliament to protest as Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was making a special statement. Government MPs too came onto the well at this time. 

United National Party (UNP) MP Kavinda Jayawardena, had fainted during the scuffle and had to be taken for medical treatment. 

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya temporarily suspended for a party leaders' meeting and proceedings have now recommenced.
