Senior DIG S.M. Wickramasinghe appointed acting IGP

Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) SM Wickramasinghe has been appointed as the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) by the President. The position of IGP fell vacant after yesterday's retirement of N.K. Illangakoon.

Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena has forwarded three names proposed for the post of the next IGP to the Constitutional Council (CC). The names are Senior DIGs S.M.Wickramasinghe, Pujith Jayasundara and Chandana Wickramaratne. 

The CC is due to make a final decision regarding the appointment of the next IGP on April 18.
