The Shangri-La hotel's suicide bomber was a chief suspect in the theft of a container worth Rs 6.2million containing steel, aluminimum and brass, the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court heard today (Jun 6).
Grandpass Police, during a hearing, told Additional Magistrate Kanchana Niranjana that the suspect had appeared for a case on January 29 over the theft.
Court was also informed that the residence of the suicide bomber identified as Inshaf Ahamed, was located down Mahawila Gardens in Dematagoda.
The bomber was accused of involvement in the theft of the container on May 30, 2013. Six more individuals have been named as suspects in the case.
Investigations had shown that Inshaf Ibrahim was the owner of a copper factory in Wellampitiya. Nine employees of the factory were taken into custody following the Easter Sunday bombings.
