The Colombo High Court today sentenced six suspects to ten and half years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) over incident of attempting to assault leader of Eelam People's Democratic Party (EPDP) Douglas Devananda at Kalutara prisons in 1998.
EPDP leader Devananda was attacked by PTA detainees when he visited the prison after a fasting was underway by Tamil inmates. The court found six persons guilty of attempting to kill the EPDP leader and acquitted nine others including Emil Kanthan who was reportedly a member of LTTE.
