Six suspects who attempted to smuggle in two mobile phones and chargers for underworld figure 'Kanjipaani Imran' at the Boossa prison have been granted bail.
Galle Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekunuwela ordered each of the suspects to be released on a cash bail of Rs 20,000 and a surety bail worth Rs 500,000 each.
The suspects which included the father and brother of M.N. Mohamed Imran alias 'Kanjipaani Imran', are M.I.Naseem (65), M.N. Abdul Faiz, M.I. M. Afrideen and M.K.M. Wasimdeen (all aged 28), M.I.M.Safraz (23) and M.Z.M. Faiz.
They had been arrested with mobile phones and chargers after they were permitted to visit the prisoner in keeping with National Prisoners' Day.
Lawyers appearing for the accused had requested Court to grant bail since their clients had maintained proper discipline while being remanded for 35 days.
The Galle Chief Magistrate ordered the case to be taken up for further hearing on January 8, 2020.
