National insurer Sri Lanka Insurance (SLIC), together with Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and Litro Gas has donated 10,000 litres of surface disinfectants to be distributed among Municipal Councils, Provincial Councils and Town Councils and necessary government entities as a precautionary measure to mitigate the risk of spreading COVID-19.
The surface disinfectants were handed over Friday (May 8) at an event with the participation of Ministers and the senior management of Sri Lanka Insurance, SLIC said in a media release.
Further SLIC donates sanitizer and face masks for 10,400 Economic Development Officers who are in the frontline providing services to general public.
“As a strong stakeholder of the government initiatives of combating COVID-19, SLIC has taken many initiatives in supporting the government efforts and the donations were made understanding the significance of following proper hygienic practices to ensure safety and well-being of state sector employees and the general public,” the release said.
Among the many initiatives taken to counter COVID-19 are, donation of 10,000 numbers of 200 ml sanitizer bottles to the Special Task Force who carry out necessary pandemic control measures, several millions of rupees to the COVID-19 Health and Social Security Fund and the Viru Abhiman free life cover granted to the state sector employees who are in the frontline of the pandemic.
