South African Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is due to visit Colombo next month, the country's High Commissioner Geoff Diodge.
Key on the discussions with the new Maithripala Sirisena administration would be on the role South Africa could play in the reconciliation process in Sri Lanka. South Africa's International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Nomaindia Mfeketo would arrive on February 24 ahead of the high level visit to meet the new government. Mr. Doidge made these comments to the Sunday Times on Monday on the sidelines of an event to promote a South African tourism show.
South Africa is a member of the Human Rights Council and would be using this opportunity to consult Sri Lanka on its human rights issues prior to the next UN Human Rights Council sessions due in March/April. (SD)
