The Speaker's Office has refuted news reports that the Speaker had exerted undue pressure on the National Police Commission (NPC) during a meeting last Friday.
"Mr. Jayasuriya who has campaigned for independent commissions since 1999, will not conduct himself in a manner that affects the independent nature of the NPC," a statement issued by the Speaker's Office read.
The statement proceeded to note that the Speaker would continue to be undeterred by such false claims made by certain politicians in a bid to tarnish his image.
