The Special High Court today (May 07) permitted former defence secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to travel to Singapore for medical reasons from May 15 - 19.
Approval was granted after President's Counsel Ali Sabry who represented Mr. Rajapaksa had filed a request with the relevant documents seeking permission for his client to travel overseas.
Further, Mr. Sabry had requested court to relieve the travel ban which has been imposed on the former defence secretary.
After having considered the request, the three-member trial-at-bar of Justices Sampath Abeykoon, Sampath Wijeratne, and Champa Janaki Rajaratne had also ordered the passport of Mr. Rajapaksa to be released by court.
Mr. Rajapaksa has been accused of involvement in the misappropriationg of funds amounting to Rs 33.9 million in the construction of the D.A. Rajapaksa memorial museum.
The case will be taken up for further hearing on May 20.
