A special meeting is to be held next Wednesday (Nov 20) at the Polonnaruwa Municipal Council to appoint an individual to the post of Deputy Mayor.
The meeting will be held at 10 an at the Conference Hall of the Municipal Council, a gazette issued by the Provincial Commissioner of the North Central Province read.
Polonnaruwa Municipal Commissioner Prasadanee Herath told Times Online that the Deputy Mayor would be chosen by a vote since no party has won the majority of seats in the local authority.
The seat has remained vacant since October 8 after the demise of M.I.M. Arfa - a United National Party (UNP) member, who was serving in that position.
There are 11 seats in the local authority out of which four have been occupied by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, three each by the UNP and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, and one by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna.
