Sri Lanka hosted the 3rd South Asia Parliamentarian Platform Meeting in partnership with UNICEF this week with the participation of officials from across the globe, the Parliament Secretariat said.
Representatives from all the countries in the region made their presentations highlighting the current progress made for children in South Asia, the current status of the unfinished agendas for children in South Asia and drawing special attention to the key challenges of realizing the rights of all children. The young representatives also expressed their views.
All countries signed the “The Colombo Declaration to take concrete actions to realize Child Rights in South Asia” and unanimously endorsed the Sri Lankan delegation's proposal to stipulate the minimum age as 18 years for marriages in all countries of the region.
