Sri Lanka retained the 76th place in the ‘High human development category’ according to the Human Development Index (HDI).
The index tracks three basic aspects of a human such as a long and healthy life, access to knowledge and a decent standard of living.
The HDI portrayed Sri Lanka's gradual improvement in human development from 0.685 in 2000 to 0.770 in 2017.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka was ranked 80th out of 160 countries in the 2017 Gender Inequality Index which assesses gender-based inequalities in reproductive health, empowerment, and economic activity.
