Sri Lanka will hold talks with the UN Department of Peace Operations, regarding the repatriation of a Sri Lankan Army unit and individual officers currently serving with the UN Peacekeeping operation, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The UN yesterday decided to repatriate a Sri Lankan Peacekeeping unit due to concerns on the appointment of Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva as the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army. A statement to this effect was released by the UN Secretary-General.
Secretary, Ministry Foreign Affairs who is leading a delegation at the 74th General Assembly session which is currently underway in New York will take up this matter.
Discussions are expected to take place tomorrow (Sept 27) with the Under-Secretary-General of the UN Department of Peace Operations.
