Storm damages 50 houses in Vavuniya

About 50 houses sustained damage due to a sudden storm that swept through the Vavuniya District on Sunday night (9). Strong winds, accompanied by heavy rain, caused most damage to the village of Kanthar Sinnakulam in Vavuniya. 

Most of the houses which sustained damage belonged to resettled persons who had been displaced by the war. The roofs of many houses had been completely blown off by the force of the storm. The occupants however, had left for other locations that night itself. They are currently staying with friends and relatives. 

According to residents, 48 houses in Kanthar Sinnakulam village and two houses in nearby Thelippukulam Village have sustained damage.
