A suspect has been arrested in Kelaniya over the possession of an unregistered Toyota V8 vehicle worth Rs 40 million yesterday (Mar 19).
The arrest was carried out by personnel attached to the Panadura (Walana) Organised Crimes Preventive Division.
Investigations had revealed that the suspect had smuggled the parts of this vehicle from Japan and had assembled it in Sri Lanka. Further, police personnel had discovered that the vehicle had not been registered at the Motor Traffic Department.
The suspect has been identified as 38-year old Diluk Chamara, a resident of Wewalduwa, Kelaniya.
Police are conducting further investigations to determine whether the suspect had committed similar fraudulent acts in the past.
