A 43-year old teacher who had allegedly beaten 17 students was remanded until March 18 by the Batticaloa Magistrates Court.
The teacher has been accused of punishing the students with a cane for failing to complete a homework assignment.
The students who were hospitalised following the incident had later lodged a complaint at the Batticaloa police.
Measures were taken to arrest the teacher who was produced before the Batticaloa Magistrates Court today (Mar 14).
