Principals, teachers, education administrators and professionals will not report to work tomorrow (Mar 12) owing to salary anomalies in the teaching sector.
"A graduate teacher receives a daily pay of Rs 920 which is insufficient," Ceylon Teachers' Services Union Chairman Dhammika Alahapperuma said.
He added that several requests calling on the President and the Education Minister to resolve this issue have failed to elicit a favourable reponse. On the same note, Mr. Kalaperuma noted that the annual budget for this year has also failed to address this issue.
The Chairman also said that the unions will not hesitate to engage in a strike action if a solution is not provided to resolve this issue following tomorrow's protest.
