Certain schools in the Central Province remained closed as teachers and principals launched a sick note campaign owing to certain demands today (Sept 26).
Few students who turned up at school had to return home since teachers had not reported to work. However, the Principals of certain schools had arrived at work.
The entrance keys of schools which remained closed had been handed over to the police stations this morning.
Teachers workshops and medical check-ups of students had been called off as a result of the trade union action which is to enter its second and final day tomorrow.
Groups of teachers were seen submitting telemail forms at postal offices to inform the relevant authorities of their decision to go on sick leave.
Some 30 unions are engaged in the trade union action citing salary anomalies and excessive workload, also demanding to allocate six percent of the country's Gross Domestic Production for education.
