Opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa called on celebrants of Thai Pongal to go beyond religious differences while adding that during his political journey it was made a priority to carry out duties without discrimination.
Further Mr Rajapaksa said that as the Thai Pongal festival marks a new beginning he hopes that in future a political solution could be reached that allowed all people to live a united and peaceful life.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
