Three police officers have been interdicted for failing to carry out an immediate probe into the sexual abuse of a female youth after a political rally in Kegalle this week.
Among the officers interdicted on orders of the Sabaragamauwa Senior DIG are a Sub Inspector and two Constables attached to the Hemmathagama Police.
The female youth, whom her father said was mentally ill, had been abused in three locations.
A probe had been launched to locate the victim after her father had filed a complaint with the Hemmathagama Police.
Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said a DNA test is to be carried out on blood samples which had been recovered at a location where the incident is believed to have taken place.
A 23-year old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is due to be produced before the Mawanella Magistrate's Court.
