Three cops interdicted for failing to probe abuse of youth after SLPP rally

News

Three police officers have been interdicted for failing to carry out an immediate probe into the sexual abuse of a female youth after a political rally in Kegalle this week.

Among the officers interdicted on orders of the Sabaragamauwa Senior DIG are a Sub Inspector and two Constables attached to the Hemmathagama Police.

The female youth, whom her father said was mentally ill, had been abused in three locations.

A probe had been launched to locate the victim after her father had filed a complaint with the Hemmathagama Police.

Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara said a DNA test is to be carried out on blood samples which had been recovered at a location where the incident is believed to have taken place.

A 23-year old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is due to be produced before the Mawanella Magistrate's Court.
