The Tamil National Allaince (TNA), Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) and three other Independent groups have filed nomination papers for Jaffna District at the District Secretariat today.
After handing over the nominations the leader of Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi (ITAK) Mavai Senathiraja said they are expecting the mandate of the people to solve the day to day issues faced by them through negotiations with the new government.
‘We would get all seven seats in this election because the people are with us and encouraging us. ’ he said.
Meanwhile Douglas Devananda , Secretary of the EPDP said there should be change in the leadership of the Tamil politics therefore they have decided to contest this election.
‘Our main campaign in this election would be creating such a leadership. The past leaders cheated the people for many years,” he said. The security around the Jaffna District Secretariat was tightened up during the nomination process.

The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has interdicted Colombo Fort Magistrate Kosala Senadheera.
The Supreme Court today refused interim relief in an application filed by President’s Counsel Senaka Walgampaya seeking an Order from the Supreme Court compelling the President to appoint judges to fill the existing vacancies in the Court Of Appeal.
The deadline for online applications to the 2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level (A/L) Examination has been extended until July 12, the Department of Examinations said.
