Tamil National Alliance (TNA), Spokesman, MP MA Sumanthiran convening a press briefing yesterday said it was the duty of the police to suppress such gangs emerging in the North.
Sumanthiran attributed the rise in crime and violence to the policemen in Jaffna who did not know the Tamil Language. On the same note he added that the activities of attackers and robbers could be curbed if the province had police powers.
He also went on to say that the problems of the province could be solved if the constitution was implemented.
Meanwhile, Jaffna Headquarters Commander Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, addressing a media briefing recently said the Army would not get involved in maintaining law and order in the Jaffna peninsula since it was a matter for the police.
