The investigating officials of Bribery Commission arrested President’s Chief of Staff I. H. K. Mahanama and State Timber Corporation (STC) Chairman P. Dissanayaka last evening when they were allegedly accepting the bribe of Rs 20 million from a foreign investor in a carpark of a leading hotel in Colombo.
According to officials of Bribery Commission, both officials demanded bribe of Rs 100 million from a Indian businessman as first install payment in order to clear the procedures to setup a factory in a land near Kanthalai sugar factory in East. Both suspects were remanded by Colombo magistrate court last night and remanded until May 9.
The suspects, Dr Mahanama, served as Secretary to the Ministry of Lands and Parliamentary Reforms earlier while the second suspect, P. Dissanayake, is one time Secretary to former President Chandrika Kumaratunga.
