A tense situation arose in response to a strike action launched by several Railway Trade Unions including drivers and guards today (August 08).
According to reports passengers have also launched into a protest opposite the fort railway station against the sudden railway trade union strike.
Railway Operators Trade Union claimed that they were forced to launch a strike as Ministers Sarath Amunugama and Rajitha Senaratne failed to deliver on promises agreed on during previous discussions to resolve salary anomalies.
Trains currently functioning will reach their destinations, however, those trains that are scheduled to depart from Fort and Maradana have been halted.
