Train services could be delayed since certain rail signals were malfunctioning due to the heavy rains experienced in the country, an authoritative source at the Railways Department told Times Online.
Rail signals had malfunctioned in certain areas today (Apr 17) due to damages caused to electric cables. The latest incident was reported in Ragama this evening and is being investigated by a team of railway officials.
"These cables are very old. If water enters these cables then rail signals begin to malfunction. This situation will exist as long as these rains continue," the source stressed adding that some three railway stations had faced similar issues throughout the day.
Accordingly, railway services might be affected tomorrow as well if rains continue across the country.
