The transfers of students who had passed the Grade Five Scholarship exam have been stalled after the Election Commission (EC) suspended such activities, a senior official said.
The EC had instructed the Education Ministry to suspend its orders to admit some 44,000 students to state schools, after Principals had complained that the orders were issued during the run-up to the presidential election.
These students also included those who had passed the exam.
Education Ministry Secretary Nihal Ranasinghe said that a request made to the EC over the matter had failed to draw a positive response.
Students who qualify the Scholarship Examination are given a chance to enroll themselves in different schools based on their marks obtained at the exam.
However, Rupasinghe pointed out that there could be delays while admitting these students this year.
