Two police officers have been hospitalised following a shooting in Akuressa this morning.
According to the police, an individual who had been riding pillion on a motorcycle which had ignored their signals to stop had fired gunshots at the policemen.
The incident had occured when police officers had given chase to three persons who had been travelling on a motorcycle without a number plate.
The injured officers are receiving treatment at the Matara Hospital. Further investigations are underway.
