Two persons including a woman have been remanded until October 04 for blackmailing a businessman by threatening to publish nude photos of him on social media, police said.
Police noted that the woman had obtained these pictures while engaging in a relationship with the businessman through social media.
The arrests had been made after the Police Western Province (South) Crimes Division had launched an investigation into a complaint filed in this regard.
Investigations have shown that the suspects had blackmailed the businessman on multiple occasions and had obtained Rs 2.4 million at the time of the arrest.
The suspects, Rukshan Fernando and Kaushalya Jayasekara, both aged 28, have been identified as residents of Moratuwa and Ratnapura respectively.
They had been remanded after being produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate's Court.
Police have cautioned the public to beware of such incidents.
