United Nations resident coordinator Una McCauley speaking at a ceremony to mark 71 years of the United Nations said the UN needs to move away from immediate humanitarian engagements into developmental and policy support.
This year marks 71 years since the United Nations was formed and 61 years since Sri Lanka became a member state of the UN.
McCauley said they would begin the process of designing the new Development Framework of the UN in Sri Lanka.
“This is a time to reflect on the need to move away from immediate humanitarian engagements,” McCauley said.
“We need to move away into more long-term developmental and policy support, by finding innovative solutions to create a forward-looking UN.”
McCauley said that this year they have scaled up their interventions to support the government’s peace building, reconciliation and governance agendas to localize the Sustainable Development Goals.
