An underworld figure Jayaweera Patabendige Indika Nilusha alias Pallikudawe Ukkuwa was killed yesterday by an unidentified group at Pallikudah Junction in Tangalle, local media reported. He was travelling in a three wheeler with two others yesterday around 9.45 a.m. when the incident occurred. Police media spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara was quoted as saying the three individuals were arrested earlier in connection with a murder and had been granted bail last month and were due to report to Tangalle Police yesterday. “When they were on their way back in a three wheeler after reporting to Tangalle Police, an unidentified group of persons who arrived in a car had fired at them at Pallikudah junction in Tangalle after purposely colliding with the three wheeler,” he was quoted as saying. According to the police media spokesman, Pallikudawe Ukkuwa, 38, died on the spot and two other gangsters were injured in the shooting. The injured persons were admitted to the Tangalle Hospital.
