Unemployed graduates take struggle to Batticaloa

News

The Combined Association of Unemployed Graduates (CAUG) held a protest march in Batticaloa town yesterday (13) as part of a campaign to raise awarenes regarding their grievances. They are demanding that the Government take steps to recruit unemployed graduates to fill an estimated 32,000 vacancies they say exist in the state sector.

The graduates marched to the Batticaloa Government Agent's office where several of their representatives met the Government Agent. However, as local officials had stated that the matter had to be taken up by the Prime Minister, the CAUG stated it would continue its campaign throughout the nine provinces of the island, culminating in a mass scale protest in Colombo at a later date.
