The United National Party (UNP) has sought cabinet portfolios on behalf of four Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) members who had supported the government recently.
According to sources a letter addressed to President Maithripala Sirisena, was put forward requesting that cabinet postings be granted to MPs Vijith Vijithamuni Soysa, Piyasena Gamage, Lakshman Seneviratne, and A.H.M. Fowzie, political sources claim.
The letter had been sent to the President in a bid to re-establish a national unity government. However, President Sirisena has neither responded to the letter nor issued a statement as of yet.
