The United National Party (UNP) will take up for discussion on Thursday its future plans on contesting parliamentary elections.
The UNP Parliamentary Group is due to meet where they will discuss regarding the criteria of selecting its future candidates.
Among the criteria to be placed is the selection of youth and educated persons as candidates while leaving out those who face serious corruption charges.
They are also expected to take a decision about the leadership amidst calls from the pro-Sajith Premadasa factions that he should be handed over the position. But, pro-Ranil Wickremesinghe faction members claim that there is also a proposal to declare Speaker Karu Jayasuriya as National Leader to lead the election campaign with Mr Premadasa.
Meanwhile the SLFP Central Committee will meet on Thursday night presided over by former President Maithripala Sirisena to discuss about the future plans at the upcoming elections including about selection of its candidates.
