Samantha Power, the US Ambassador to the United Nations set off on an official visit to the North this morning of Sunday, November 22.
Ms Power tweeted about her trip to Jaffna saying "Urged Jaffna Chief Minister Wigneswaran to help reinforce #SriLanka precious moment for reconciliation/rebuilding"
In addition she also commented on her meeting with Northern Province Governor H. M. G. S. Palihakkara, saying "Agreed development, demilitarization in Jaffna cannot wait."
Bi-lateral discussions were held between the US Ambassador and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Samaraweera on Saturday.
According to the Foreign Ministry, points regarding the strengthening of ties between the United States and Sri Lanka were discussed.
During the course of her visit, Samantha Power is set to hold discussions with state officials, civil and youth representatives.
