The verdict on the writ petition filed against the establishment of houses by clearing forest land in and around the Wilpattu forest reserve will be delivered by the Appeal Court on August 05.
This was announced when the petition was taken for a hearing before the Appeal Court's two-member judge bench of Justices Kumudini Wickramasinghe, and Mahinda Samayawardana.
The trial-at-bar had announced that the verdict will be announced on the said date since the oral submissions of both the petitioners and the respondents had concluded.
The petition was filed by the Centre for Enviornmental Justice opposing the setting-up of houses by clearing forest land.
The Wildlife Director General, Central Enviornmental Authority Director, Mannar District Secretariat, Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, and the Attorney General were named as respondents in the case.
