Two prisoners launched a protest at the Welikada prison against the release of a death row prisoner, convicted of murdering a Swedish youth in 2005, on presidential pardon.
The prisoners who are also on death row, are staging the protest atop the roof of the H Ward in the prison, a senior prisons official said.
Shramantha Jude Anthony Jayamaha, was granted pardon and released on (Nov 9 ) by President Maithripala Sirisena, who previously stated that he had served his term on "good behaviour".
Jayamaha was convicted of murdering 19-year-old Swedish national, Yvonne Jonsson, a ruling overturned into a death sentence upon being challenged at the Appeal Court in 2012, and held by the Supreme Court.
The murder had been committed at the Royal Park housing complex in Rajagiriya.
