A 25-year-old wildlife officer was shot and killed by poachers during a raid conducted inside the Galoya National Park last night (22).
Police said the incident occurred when a team of officers from the Department of Wildlife Conservation's Inginiyagala office were conducting a raid inside the park. They had been fired upon by a group of poachers, resulting in the death of the officer.
Four poachers have been taken into custody along with a 12-bore shotgun suspected to have been used in the shooting. Dambagalla police are investigating.
