Former Police Spokesman Preshantha Jayakody said he is ready to provide evidence if a proper inquiry into the white van trend commences. The ex-SSP, who returned to the country from Australia after one year and seven months said that he had sought protection from the Australian government because he received threats from defence officials, businessmen involved in running karaoke bars, clubs and involved in narcotic dealing and was under pressure from politicians from MPs to Chief Ministers and secretaries to the Ministries. “The present government is also delaying especially in the inquiry into an organized coup on election night at Temple Trees. CCTV footages and telephone conversations should be traced. This should be done before people lose trust with the institutions such as the CID” He said that he was not invited by the present government, but came to the country voluntarily as the present atmosphere is safe. “I do not need any security or protection. I will submit a written appeal to the Public Services Commission as my post was vacant for a long time. But the reason was I was worried about my life and my family’s,” he said. He said that he knows the military officers involved in the white van culture that prevailed in the country and said that no police officers were involved in it.
