Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa today urged the Government to present proposals listed in President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s policy statement to Parliament without delay.
Addressing Parliament during the adjournment debate on President Rajapaksa’s policy statement, Mr Premadasa further said that the new “modern, practical and progressive Opposition” he heads would support all progressive proposals listed in the President’s policy statement. He said the Government should present these proposals via a budget without waiting for an election and a 2/3 majority.
“We will help the Government get the 2/3 to fulfill the aspirations of the 6.9 million who voted for them,” he said.
He cited proposals such as the one to provide free fertilizer subsidy, a relief package, jobs for graduates and building 1000 national schools as among proposals that the Opposition could support.
He also challenged the Government to “tear up” agreements such as the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), Status of Forces (SOFA), Acquisition and Cross Servicing Agreement (ACSA) and Singapore-Sri Lanka free trade agreement since their MPs constantly painted those agreemen
