United National Party (UNP) MP Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka told Parliament today that he would not vote in support of the President's Expenditure Head.
Speaking in Parliament during the Committee Stage Debate of the Budget, where the President’s Expenditure Head is also being debated, Field Marshal Fonseka said he will not raise his hand to support the Expenditure Head of a President who has repeatedly violated the Constitution and who continues with attempts to derail the efforts of the Government.
The President's Expenditure Head has come in for sharp focus in the days prior to today's debate after a group of UNP Backbenchers insisted that they will cast their votes to defeat it.
However, UNP Chairman Kabir Hashim said last evening that the party will vote in favour of the President's Expenditure Head.
